Margaret Helen Hurliman

Margaret Helen Hurliman, 101, of St. Joseph and formerly of Martinton, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth, with her daughter Joyce by her side. She was born on February 17, 1921 in rural Rankin, the daughter of Raymond and Amelia (Yerkey) Betka. She married Edgar A. Hurliman at First Methodist Church of Champaign on February 6, 1942 and he preceded her in passing on May 8, 2010 after sixty-eight years of very happy marriage.

Surviving are two sons, Edgar R. (Nancy) Hurliman of Broken Bow, OK and Jerry (Nancy) Hurliman of Danforth; two daughters, Beth (Fred) Clarke of Lakewood, CO and Joyce Hurliman of St. Joseph; five grandchildren, Catherine (Matt) Hartner, Jennifer (Toby) Brewster, Sara (Kenny) Daniel, Sarah (Katy) Hurliman Miller, and Rebecca Hurliman; seven great grandchildren, Nathan Hartner, Cason (Shelby) Brewster, Coy Brewster, Kallie (Jarrett) Wieldt, Seth Daniel, Marta Daniel, and Lachlan Miller.

Mrs. Hurliman was preceded in passing by her parents; husband, Edgar; one sister, Frances Hurliman; and two brothers, Kenneth Betka and Keith Betka.

Margaret was a retired postal clerk. She was a devoted wife and mother. Margaret was a graduate of Illinois Commercial College. Mrs. Hurliman worked for the War Department during World War II. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, quilting, cooking, and gardening.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashkum. Rev. Don Gillespie will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Watseka.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the services at church on Wednesday, from 9:00 am 11:00 am.

Arrangements are being handled by Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton.
