Jerry Owen Mason, 71, of Watseka, IL, died peacefully in the house his father built and he grew up in on March 23, 2021. He was born in Watseka on August 18, 1949, and was a zealous child bursting with energy. He was the second of four postwar children born to Harry L. and Bonnie J. (Owens) Mason, and graduated from Watseka Community High School in 1967. He attended Monmouth College, then served his country in the U. S. Army from 1970-1974, stateside and in West Germany, as an enlisted man in Artillery Ballistic Meteorology. Upon his discharge he attended Western Illinois University, then attained a two-year degree in Electronics Technology from Valparaiso Technical Institute. He plied his trade in Washington and in Illinois, retiring from Bosch in Watseka in 2013. Jerry loved HARD ROCK, especially Bad Company, Montrose and Led Zeppelin. He loved to travel, play golf, garden, birdwatch, ride his Honda motorcycle, and dine at K & H in Gilman, Illinois. He skied Zugspitze, Snowmass and Lake Shafer. He once hit a magnificent home run into the night in Tucson, Arizona, playing in a rec league game with his older brother.
Jerry never married and had no children, but he adored his nieces and nephews, Graeme, Amber, Jessica, Alaina, Alex and Rhenn. He was preceded in death by both parents and is survived by his siblings John (Mary) Mason of West Lafayette, Indiana; Harry L. Mason, Jr. of Portage, Michigan; and Melissa Cahoe of Merrillville, Indiana.
He was a true believer and read his Bible throughout his life. He had a big heart and a kind word for anyone he would meet. He wasn't much for hoopla, and in accordance with that, the family will have an intimate celebration of his life sometime in the near future. He would wish all his friends Godspeed.
