Jan Schlereth

Jan Schlereth, 98 of Urbana and formerly of Watseka passed away on Friday December 23, 2022 at her home. She was born on August 31, 1924 in Rensselaer, IN a daughter of Carl and Madeline (Kellner) Wood. Jan married Dr. John R. Schlereth in Rensselaer, IN on June 24, 1945 and he preceded her in death on November 22, 2004. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother- John Wood, and one grandson- Matthew Busey.

Survivors include two sons- Rick (Jo Ellen) Schlereth of Oostburg, WI and Robert (Julie) Schlereth of Lake Zurich; one daughter- Linda (Richard) Busey of Urbana; one brother- Joseph (Madalyn) Wood of Rensselaer, IN; seven grandchildren- David (Karen) Schlereth, Anne (Mike) Reeck, Mary (Wesley) Peete, Zachary (Stacey) Schlereth, Jan Schlereth, Ryan (Cydney) Busey, and Kelli (Adam) Kirby; and eight great grandchildren.

Jan was a wonderful wife and mother who was devoted to her family and friends. She was the quintessential optimist, always seeing the good in people and seeing the positive in difficult situations.
During her long life, she was fortunate to travel extensively with her husband and with her social group of like-minded women known as the Road Runners.

Her later years were filled with her loving family surrounding her in all ways. She reveled in small things, especially the laughter of children. She felt truly blessed to be able to live independently for so long in her own home.

Funeral services will be held at St. Edmund Catholic Church in Watseka at 11:00 am on Thursday December 29, 2022 with Fr. Michael Powell officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Watseka.
