Gerald Raymond Mathy

Gerald Raymond Mathy, 71, of Chebanse passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born on October 19, 1951 in Kankakee, a son of Russell E. and Rosella (Kanouse) Mathy. Gerald married Diane Lynn Elbert on April 15, 1972 in Chebanse and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Meggan Rose (James) Smith of Chebanse and Tennille Lynn Mathy of Chebanse; two granddaughters, Kylie Rose and Madison Rae Smith; four siblings, Russell "JR" (Renee) Mathy of Clifton, Donna (Robert) Brouillette of Camdenton, MO, Lynette (Duane) Gray of Ocala, FL, and Mark (Carole) Mathy of Naples, FL; siblings-in-law, Rick (Mary) Elbert of Milton, WI, Ronald Elbert of Bourbonnais, Mary (Greg) Herman of St. Anne, and Diana Elbert of Chebanse.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Francis and Mildred Elbert; and brother-in-law, Terry "Pete" Elbert.

Gerald proudly served and was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Chebanse American Legion Post 408. Gerald served for many years on the Otto Township Fire Department. He was proud of "Russ and Rosie's" family restaurant. Gerald enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, racing, and especially watching his granddaughters play school sports. He loved his granddaughters with all his heart.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the 3:00 p.m. funeral service on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton with Fr. Vern Arseneau officiating. American Legion Post 408 will conduct military rites at the funeral home with a private burial immediately following in the Evergreen Cemetery in Chebanse.

Memorials may be given to the Chebanse American Legion Post 408 or Otto Township Fire Department.
