Betty J. Jean, 90, passed away quietly at home March 13, 2023, surrounded by her children.
Betty June was born July 28, 1932, to Ernest and Elma (Smith) Seggebruch. She attended Ward Country School and graduated from Onarga High School in 1950. She graduated from Wheaton College and taught school a few years in Gilman and Cissna Park before getting married and starting her family.
Betty married Robert Irvin "Cobby" Jean on April 12, 1958. He passed in June of 2004. Betty and Irvin raised their family and farmed southwest of Onarga. Betty did all of the bookkeeping for their livestock and grain operation. After Irvin's passing, she continued to be active in the business, bookkeeping for herself and her son.
She was a quiet woman, thoughtful in word and deed. She enjoyed life and had a quiet, subtle sense of humor. She had a remarkable memory. Betty was the foundation of her family, always providing guidance and support in her calm and patient way.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, Ernie Glenn Seggebruch.
She is survived by her four children: Harry (Anita) Jean, Aubrey, TX; Robert (Sue Henson) Jean, Thawville; Karen Jean, Thawville; and Karla Jean, Thawville; and one sister, Shirley Seggebruch, Cissna Park, one niece, two nephews, and numerous cousins in the Onarga and Cissna Park area.
Services will take place at the Knapp Funeral Home in Onarga. Visitation will be Friday, March 17 from 4-7 pm. Funeral service is on Saturday, March 18 at 11 am with Rev. Glenn Corbly officiating. Burial will follow in the Onarga Cemetery.
