Arthur Robert "Art" Murray, 91, of Milford passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at his home in Milford. He was born on September 16, 1931, in Pierce City, MO, the son of Arthur R. and Rebecca (Hadley) Murray. He married Phyllis Hagebusch in Pierce City, MO on September 16, 1951.
In addition to his wife, Phyllis Murray of Milford, Art is survived by two sons, Rob (Janice) Murray of Milford and Chris (Lisa) Murray of Ballwin, MO; two daughters, Lori Murray of Villa Grove, IL and Carol Murray of Kittanning, PA; eleven grandchildren, Erin Koehn, Megan (Esteban) Rosas, Molly (James) Roth, Kathleen (Claude) Wilson, Amanda Murray, Rowdy (Bailey) Murray, Robin Murray, Alissa Murray, Kaitlan Murray, Colin Murray, and Ryan Murray; nine great-grandchildren, Lucas, Nathan, Landon, and Sean Koehn, Benito Rosas, Divya, Riyadh, and Isaac Wilson, Annalise Miller, and 3 more great-grandchildren coming soon; one sister, Ruth Etta Buchner of Eagle Rock, MO; one nephew, William "Bill" (Kendra) Buchner of Oregon; one nephew in law, Bob Steiner of Kansas; five great nieces, four great nephews, and several cousins.
Art was preceded in passing by both of his parents and one niece, Rebecca Lynn Steiner of Kansas.
Mr. Murray served as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He then worked for IBM for almost ten years. Art purchased Citizens State Bank in 1969 and has continued to run it ever since with his family, where he stayed actively involved.
Art was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church, loved playing golf, and was proudly involved in countless projects over the years benefiting the Milford area. He was the first president and a founding member of what is now called, the Community Bankers Association of Illinois.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm on Monday, October 24, 2022, at Knapp Funeral Home in Milford.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Knapp Funeral Home in Milford. Pastor Darla Holden and Pastor Jerry Parker will officiate. Burial will follow at Sugar Creek Cemetery in Stockland. Graveside military rites will be provided by Watseka American Legion Post #23 and Iroquois County VFW Post #7450.
