Verdell Middleton, 87, Crescent City, IL
Verdell Eugene Middleton, 87, of Crescent City passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Faith Place in Danforth.
Verdell was born February 17, 1925 in Pratt, MO, the son of John Henry and Teena Mae Shirrell Middleton. He married Edda Janssen on September 6, 1980 in Crescent City and she preceded him in death on December 31, 2007.
Surviving are one son, Kevin (Carol) Middleton of Toledo, OH; one daughter, Sharon (David) Shafer of McHenry; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and one grandchild.
Mr. Middleton served in the Navy during WWII. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Crescent City, Men in Mission, Thrivent and Cissna Park American Legion Post #527. Verdell was the owner & operator of Middleton Mortuary Service in Arlington Heights, formerly owned Middleton Chapel in Onarga and had been employed at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2012 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Crescent City. Rev. Pete Hinrich will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Crescent City.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth or St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Crescent City.
