Leona R. Burns, 82, Melvin, IL

Leona Rose Burns, 82, of Melvin passed away on Friday, July 6, 2012 at Heritage Health in Gibson City.

Leona was born April 13, 1930 in Melvin, a daughter of George E. and Hilda M. Arndorfer Benz.  She married Harold Burns on November 14, 1948 in Melvin and he preceded her in death on July 9, 1994.

Surviving are one son, Donald P. (Deborah) Burns of Roberts; two grandchildren, Amy Burns of Champaign and Dustin Burns of Paxton; one sister-in-law, Dorothy (Ronald) Lyons of Normal; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Paul Benz; and one daughter, Rita Dianne Burns.

Mrs. Burns was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Roberts.  She was a cook at Melvin-Sibley Unit School District for 28 years.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2012 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Roberts.  Private graveside services will be held later at Lyman Twp. Cemetery in Roberts.  Rev. Matt Geerdes will officiate.

Memorials may be made to Heritage Health in Gibson City, Passages Hospice or Donor’s Choice.
