Elwood W. Cailteux, 85, Ashkum, IL

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for 85 year old Elwood W. Cailteux of Ashkum at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Clifton.  Rev. Fr. John Eck will officiate.  Mr. Cailteux died Monday, April 23, 2012 at Provena St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee following a lengthy illness.  Friends may call at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton on Friday, April 27, 2012 from 3:00-7:00 p.m.  Burial will be in the L’Erable Catholic Cemetery.  A wake service will be at 5:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Cailteux was born in rural Clifton on September 3, 1926, the son of Herman Cailteux and Lena Leveque Cailteux and they preceded him in death.  He married Roselma Meyer at St. Rose Church in Kankakee on January 29, 1949 and she survived in Ashkum.

Other surviviors include four daughters, Sandra (James) Friedli of Monroe, WI, Rebecca (Douglas ) Hale of Ashkum, Laurie (Jacky) Chen of Racine, WI and Cynthia (Roaul) Boudreau of Chebanse; ten grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mardelle (Louis) Schuh of Papineau; and one foster daughter-in-law, Lana Beaupre of Clifton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Darrel; one sister, Roselma; and one foster son, Norman Beaupre.

Mr. Cailteux was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Clifton.  He was a lifelong farmer in the L’Erable area.  He was an avid baker and candy maker and also enjoyed gardening.

Memorials may be made for masses or to the Clifton Area Food Pantry.
