Janis G. Hansen, 72, Clifton, IL

Janis G. Hansen, 72, of Clifton passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.

Janis was born December 27, 1939 in Pontiac, MI, a daughter of Moses and Evelyn Podvin Paquette.  She married Ken L. Hansen on October 22, 1983 in Albuquerque, NM and he survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Debbie Williams of Ashley, IL; three sons, Vance Drouillard and Steve (Jeanne) Drouillard all of Albuquerque, NM and David Drouillard of Bourbonnais; two step-daughters, Pam (Rick) England and Jennifer Hansen all of Albuquerque, NM; two brothers, Jerry (Patricia) Paquette of Hastings, MI and Neil (Chris) Paquette of Holly, MI; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Hansen was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clifton and the Legion Auxiliary in Texas.  She enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, crafting, wildlife walks, going to the gym and yoga.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2012 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clifton.  Rev. Vern Arseneau will officiate.  Burial will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Clifton.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton with a prayer service being held.

Marjorie L. Hungness, 83, Sheldon, IL

Marjorie L. Hungness, 83, of Sheldon, IL passed away on June 24, 2012 at the Iroquois Resident Home in Watseka, IL.

She was born on July 25, 1928 in Donovan, IL to Russell and Sybialla (Bard) Peterson.  Marge graduated as valedictorian from Donovan High School in 1946.  She attended the University of Illinois and graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing.  Marge worked as a registered nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago and later at the Hungness Clinic in Sheldon.  She married Norman Dean Hungness on June 16, 1951 and they recently celebrated their 61st anniversary.  She was dedicated to raising her four children and enjoyed playing golf. 

Marjorie is survived by her husband, Dr. Norman Dean Hungness of Sheldon and their children, Kimberly (Kent) Damisch of Indianapolis, IN, Kathy (Richard) Foster of Indianapolis, IN, Steven (Celeste) Hungness of Coral Springs, FL and Karen (Blake) Bahler of Buckley, IL; grandchildren, Brian and Brett Damisch; Natalie, Abby and Hannah Foster; Curtis, Tyler and Austin Hungness; and Sam, Ben and Eve Bahler.

Ronald J. Dodd, 88, Cissna Park, IL

Ronald J. Dodd, 88, of Cissna Park, IL passed away on Monday, June 25, 2012 at his home.

Ronald was born April 29, 1924 in Roberts, IL, the son of George and Ida Drechsel Dodd. He married Hazel DeWall on March 30, 1946 in Melvin, IL and she survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Sharon (Gary) Kuhns of Mattoon, IL and Joyce (John) Darnstaedt of Monticello, IN; two sons, Terry (Cindy) Dodd of Mahomet, IL and Gary (Pam) Dodd of Buckley, IL; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Violet Robinson Spence and Gladys Jean Boundy.

Ronald was a member of the Cissna Park United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge and the Iroquois County Farm Bureau Board. He was a past member and president of the Cissna Park School Board and also served as a director of the Cissna Park State Bank. He was a lifelong farmer in the Cissna Park area. Ronald was also an avid Red Devils, Timberwolves, Illini and Cubs fan. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren at their sporting events and 4-H activities.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Cissna Park United Methodist Church. Rev. Janet Longtin will officiate. Burial will be in the Cissna Park Cemetery.

Visitation will run from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park, IL and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Charles J. Embro, 45, Danville, IL

Charles J. Embro, 45, of Danville, IL passed away on Friday, June 22, 2012 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. 

Charles was born September 19, 1966 in Chicago, IL, the son of Joseph and Beverly Cline Embro.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Beverly and Michael Sheehan of Anderson, MO; two sisters, Deborah Albertson of Columbus, IN and Angela Astore of Long Island, NY; and one brother, Joseph Embro of Indiana.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the 7:00 p.m. funeral service on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka with Joe Hughes officiating.  Burial will be in the Danville VA Cemetery at a later date.

Gerald E. “Jerry” Reutter, Mineral, VA

Gerald E. “Jerry” Reutter passed away on Monday, October 17, 2011 at Culpeper Memorial Hospital after a four year battle with metastatic melanoma.

Jerry was born August 5, 1940 in Watseka, a son of Virgil E. and Bernice Breymeyer Reutter. He married Joan Rivers on October 13, 2007 in Tucson, AZ and she survives.

Other survivors include one son, Kirk Reutter of San Marcos, CA; two daughters, Juliana Miller of Haymarket, VA and Rebecca Reutter of Corona Del Mar, CA; and his grandchildren.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

While in high school Jerry relocated with his family to Lancaster, CA and while in high school there, he played in a band with the legendary Frank Zappa. Jerry was a graduate of the University of Arizona and received a Master’s Degree in Applied Oceanography from Scripps Institute in San Diego, CA. He had recently retired as an aerospace engineer, after which he relocated to Lake Anna to be close to his daughter and grandchildren. He served proudly in the US Navy and was a 32nd Degree and York Rite Free Mason.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Milford. Masonic rites will be accorded.

Dovie L. Glasgow, 76, Sheldon, IL

Dovie L. Glasgow, 76, of Sheldon passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Sheldon Health Care Center in Sheldon, IL.

Dovie was born July 7, 1935 in Monroe Co., KY, the daughter of Raymond and Maxine Huff Davis.  She married Wayne E. Glasgow on February 22, 1953 in Sheldon, IL and he preceded her in death on June 2, 1994.

Surviving are three sons, Timothy (Sharon) Glasgow of Kentland, IN, Herbert (Kathleen) Glasgow of Kentland, IN and Walter Dean Glasgow of Goshen, IN; three daughters, Cinda Glasgow of Maryland, Betty (Mark) Johnson of Elkhart, IN and Melissa (Scott) Temple of Sheldon, IL; two brothers, Carson Davis of Bonnie Lake, WA and Darrell Traylor of Pontiac, IL; one sister, Lula Bell (William) Fox of Frankfort, IN; ten grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Glasgow was a member of the Sheldon Church of Christ and Sheldon Legion Auxiliary #393.  Dovie was a CNA at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, IL and enjoyed crocheting and reading.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2012 at Knapp Funeral Home in Sheldon, IL.  Burial will be in the Sheldon Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Knapp Funeral Home in Sheldon, IL.

Billy J. Thomas, 71, Sheldon, IL

Billy J. “B.J.” Thomas, 71, of Sheldon passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at his home.

Billy was born December 11, 1940 in Fonde, KY, the son of John and Sinda Wilson Thomas.  He married Patsy Leach on April 11, 1959 in Tazewell, TN and she survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Mitsi (Roger) Morsch of Chandler, AZ; one son, Eddie (Joyce) Thomas of Sheldon; six grandchildren, Beth (Adam) Stephens of Mesa, AZ, Matthew Morsch of New York, NY, Jessica White of Sheldon, Carly White of Woodland, Amanda (Joe) German of Milford and Danny (Kim) Buswell of Houston, TX; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Luther Thomas of Tazewell, TN; one sister, Aileen Johnson of Knoxville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; two sisters; and one son, Ronald J. Thomas.

Mr. Thomas was of Baptist Faith.  He worked as the Donovan School custodian and for T.P.&W. for years.  Billy enjoyed working in the garage, and buying, selling and trading items.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 12:00 p.m. funeral service on Friday, June 22, 2012 at Knapp Funeral Home in Sheldon. Rev. Larry Schuringa will officiate.  Burial will be in Gaffield Cemetery in Iroquois.

Gladys L. Wene, 93, Watseka, IL

Gladys L. Wene, 93, of Watseka passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka.

Gladys was born November 2, 1918 in Colfax, a daughter of William and Lena Cruse Lobdell.  She married Donald Wene on October 14, 1939 in Kirkswood, MO and he survives.

Other survivors include one son, Edward Wene (wife, Bonnie Boyle) of Crookston, MN; two daughters, Donna (husband, Michael) Butler of Lawrence, KS and Ruth Wene (husband, Tom Seals) of Urbana; three grandchildren, Brian Wene of Minneapolis, MN, Geoffrey Gladding of Melbourne, FL and Sophia Gladding (husband, Timothy Whitfeld) of St. Paul, MN; one step-grandson, Randy Seals of Greensboro, NC; and one great-grandson, Elliot Seals.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and three sisters.

Mrs. Wene taught school in McLean County and Sheldon and was also a librarian.  She was active in the Iroquois County Historical Society.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. memorial service on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka.  Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Kenney, IL at a later date.

Patrick J. Bechely, 23, Spring, TX

Patrick J. Bechely, 23, of Spring, TX and formerly of Watseka, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.

Patrick was born October 12, 1988 in Champaign, the son of John and Karen Satterfield Bechely.

Surviving are his mother, Karen Bechely of Danforth; his father, John Bechely of Watseka; two sisters, Morgan (Nick) Shoemaker of Iroquois and Meagan Bechely of Watseka; two nephews, Andrew and Lucas Shoemaker; one niece, Adalyn Bury; paternal grandparents, Joe and Pat Bechely of Sheldon; maternal grandmother, Louise Satterfield of Champaign; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Burl Satterfield.

Patrick was a member of St. Edmund Catholic Church in Watseka.  He was a 2007 graduate of Watseka Community High School, 2010 graduate of John A. Logan College and was a construction manager for RSL Construction in Spring, TX.  Patrick enjoyed hunting and other sports and was an avid Bears and White Sox fan.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at St. Edmund Catholic Church in Watseka.  Fr. Michael Powell will officiate. 

Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka with a Rosary being said at 8:00 p.m.

Darlene A. Huff, 71, Sheldon, IL

Darlene A. Huff, 71, a longtime Sheldon, IL resident, died May 24, 2012 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin, IN.  Mrs. Huff was born September 24, 1940, in Iroquois, IL to the late Leslie Evans and Jesse Amanda (Ristow) Lambert.  She was a 1959 graduate from Sheldon High School in Sheldon, IL. 

On July 3, 1960, Mrs. Huff married Jimmie D. Huff of Raub, IN.  Shortly after marriage, Mrs. Huff accompanied her husband to Germany where he served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962.  Upon return from living abroad, Mrs. Huff was employed by TRW in Watseka, IL.  Thereafter, she was a homemaker and stay at home mom.  Later in life, she worked for Country Company Insurance and served as the Treasurer for the town of Sheldon.  She loved watching basketball, collecting Fiestaware and being with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jimmie D. Huff; infant son, Stephen James; father, Leslie Evans Lambert; mother, Jesse Amanda (Ristow) Lambert and brother, Ronald Lavern Lambert.  Survivors include her sons, Leonard James Huff (Melinda) of Fox River Grove, IL, and Joseph Lee Huff (Alice) from Greenwood, IN and brother, Harold Evans Lambert (Pam) of Alexandria,VA.  Mrs. Huff was the proud grandmother of five; Jessica, Nicholas, Anthony, Jonathan, and Kristopher. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, friends and family. 

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Sheldon, IL.  Graveside burial will be held immediately following the service at the Sheldon Cemetery.

Thomas A. Rothery Jr., 92, Cissna Park, IL

Thomas A. Rothery Jr., 92, of Cissna Park passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Hoopeston Community Memorial Nursing Home.

Thomas was born October 8, 1919 in Cissna Park, a son of Thomas and Marie Fryer Rothery Sr.  He married Pearl Dewey Baker on May 27, 1939 in Kentucky and she preceded him in death on May 28, 2012.

Surviving are one daughter, Sandra Wyss of Cissna Park; one son, Bruce (Patty) Rothery of Danville; four grandchildren, Foti (Belinda) Burtzos, Demmie (Anthony) Williams, Tom (Tina) Burtzos and Danny Rothery; twelve great-grandchildren, Trevor (Natali) Burtzos, Alyssa Burtzos, Alexandra Burtzos, Andrew Burtzos, Chris Balignasay, Tylar Rothery, Kayla Rothery, Marissa Williams, Marcus Williams, Jordan Williams, Kristen Burtzos and Merideth Burtzos; one great-great-grandchild, Alana Balignasay; and one sister, Norma Jean Carter of Frederick, MD.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Rothery; one sister, Frances Frye; one grandson, Christopher Rothery; and two sons-in-law, Andrew Burtzos and Gerald Wyss.

Mr. Rothery Jr. was a member of the Cissna Park United Methodist Church.  He was a painter in the Cissna Park area for over 65 years and enjoyed playing cards.  Thomas was married for 73 yeras to his loving wife, Pearl. 

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. funeral service on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at the Cissna Park United Methodist Church.  Rev. Janet Longtin will officiate.  Burial will be in the Cissna Park Cemetery.

Marlin A. Redeker, 76, Woodworth, IL

Marlin August Redeker, 76, of Woodworth passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 from hairy cell leukemia at his home surrounded by his family.

Marlin was born September 16, 1935 in Woodworth, a son of August J. and Hilda Louise Heuer Redeker. He married Juanita H. Janssen on June 14, 1959 in Milford and she preceded him in death on March 4, 2003.

Survivors include 1 daughter, Janis (Vince) LaMie of Woodworth; 1 sister, Marcia (Dean) Schippert of Milford; 1 brother, Melvin (Becky) Redeker of Champaign; 9 grandchildren, Jason Burke of Helena, MT, Jimmy (Kayla) Redeker of Sheldon, Raymond Redeker of Desboro, Ontario, Canada, Micah Redeker of Watseka, Melissa Redeker of Rantoul, Jonathon, Julian, Sophia and Oliver LaMie of Woodworth; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law, Pat Janssen of Milford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Marlene Freeman; 3 sons, Jeff, Gary and Michael Redeker; and 2 brothers-in-law, Herschel Freeman Jr. and Wendell Janssen.

Marlin was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Woodworth where he was a former usher and trustee and was the current St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery sexton. He was a former member of the Milford Fire Depatment. He worked at Sea Sprite from 1968 – 2003. He enjoyed antique guns, western movies and gardening.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 9 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Woodworth. Rev. Benjamin Meyer will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Woodworth.

Visitation will run from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 8 at Knapp Funeral Home in Milford and for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Frances E. Haines, 91, Milford, IL

Frances E. Haines, 91, of Milford passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the Watseka Rehab & Health Care Center.

Frances was born June 28, 1920 in Iroquois, the daughter of Oscar and Kittie Karr Samuelson.  She married Lewis G. Haines on August 24, 1941 in Watseka and he preceded her in death on April 18, 2000.

Surviving are one grandson, Seth Haines of Reynolds; one sister, Jean Wilkinson of Sheldon; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; three sisters; and two sons.

Mrs. Haines was a member of the First Baptist Church of Watseka.  She worked at Howard Industries for many years and was the secretary for the Iroquois County Coroner.  Frances enjoyed collecting elephants.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Friday, June 8, 2012 at Knapp Funeral Home in Milford.  Pastor Ray Jackson will officiate.  Burial will be in Prairie Dell Cemetery in Iroquois.

Jane Frank, 80, Cissna Park, IL

Jane Frank, 80, of Cissna Park, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Asta Care Center in Paxton.

Jane was born January 7, 1932 in Rankin, a daughter of Fred E. and Gladys Whitesel Rogers. She married Robert Frank on June 11, 1950 in Cissna Park and he preceded her in death on October 2, 2003.

Survivors include one son, Dave Frank of Cissna Park; two daughters, Donna (Don) Hamm of Mahomet and Diane (Brian “Nutz”) Weber of Cissna Park; four grandchildren, Heather Frank of Diamondhead, MS, Darren Hamm of Kohlsville, WI, Neal Hamm of Busan, South Korea and Tiffany Hamm of Mahomet.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother, Robert Eugene Rogers; a sister, Dorothy Dunlap; a half-sister, June McDaniel; and an infant grandson, Ryan Michael Hamm.

Jane was active in the Cissna Park Union Church. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano and spending time with her grandkids. She babysat for many years.

Visitation will run from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park and for one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, June 7, 2012, at the funeral home. Rev. Al White will officiate. Burial will be at Cissna Park Cemetery.

Ralph E. Knapp, 88, Bloomington, IL

Ralph E. Knapp, 88 of Bloomington, IL and formerly of Cissna Park passed away at 8:05 pm on Friday, June 01, 2012 at his residence.

Ralph was born on November 22, 1923 in Cissna Park, a son of Adam J. and Elizabeth Frank Knapp.  He married Verena Meiss on December 21, 1947 in Danville and she survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Stan Knapp of Allen, TX, Kevin (Dixie) Knapp of Bloomington, and Keith (Kay) Knapp of Hoopeston; one daughter, Mardel Knapp of Bloomington; two brothers and three sister-in-laws, Charles Knapp of Bloomington, Wayne (Delores) Knapp of Watseka, Doris Knapp of Cissna Park, and Mary Knapp of Bloomington; seven grandchildren, Alesa (Clint) Bahler, Lucas (Angie), Dustin, Spencer, Jennifer, Jackie, and Jason Knapp; and three great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Melvin and Earl Knapp; and one sister, Alma Dreyer.

Mr. Knapp was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Bloomington as well as member of the Cissna Park American Legion.  Ralph was a District Manager for Dale Carnegie Courses for 20 years and also a retired farmer.  He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.  

Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 pm on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the Apostolic Christian Church in Bloomington and from 9:00-9:45 am on Monday at the church.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Apostolic Christian Church in Bloomington with the ministers of the church officiating. 

Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday at the Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Cissna Park with military rites by the Cissna Park American Legion Post #527.

Memorials may be made to the Apostolic Christian Church Outreach Fund.
