Helen L. Brown, 86, Woodland, IL

Helen L. Brown was born to Mannis and Nellie Martin on November 22, 1923.  She graduated from Milford High School and Charm Beauty School.  She married Elmer “John” Martin in November of 1941.  He preceded her in death in 1944 due to injuries sustained during the Battle of the Bulge.

Helen married L.E. Brown in January of 1950.  He preceded her in death in 1966.  Mrs. Brown was also preceded in death by one grandson, Ross J. Bright; two sisters, Joane Schaumburg and Isabelle Harrell; one brother, Frank D. Martin; and one stepdaughter, Carole Ann Brown.

Surviving are one daughter, Sharon R. Bright of Watseka; two stepsons, Rex L. Brown of Decatur and Max A. Brown of Gilman; grandsons, Robbie S. Bright, Bruce Brown, Britt Brown and Brad Brown; a granddaughter, Cindy Zimdar; several great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Brown was a life long member of the Woodland Methodist Church.  Her life journey culminated in a woman who remained resilient, strong in character and devoted to her faith.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 9, 2010 at Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka.  Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka.  The Rev. Neil Larimore will officiate.  Burial will be in Body Cemetery in Woodland, IL.

Memorials may be made to the Woodland Methodist Church or Donor’s Choice.
