Verginia E. Hanna, 96, Onarga, IL

Verginia E. Hanna, 96, of Onarga, IL passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010 at the home of her daughter in Onarga.

Visitation will run for two hours prior to the 11:30 a.m. service on Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Onarga Christian Church in Onarga. Pastor James Small and Pastor Neil Larimore will officiate. Interment will be at Onarga Cemetery in Onarga.

Mrs. Hanna was born Feb. 16, 1913 in Lanark, IL, a daughter of Charles W. and Lula Belle Rowland Whitmer. She married Forest C. Hanna on Sept. 14, 1930 in Lanark. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1985.

Surviving Mrs. Hanna are two sons and daughters-in-law, Forest C. and Eileen Hanna Jr. of Watseka and Howard W. and Betty Hanna of Tampico, IL; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Richard Walters of Decatur, IL, and Mary and Carl Bork and Rita and Gary Perkinson, all of Onarga; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Hanna of DeKalb, IL; one sister, Mary Belle Campbell of Freeport, IL; family friend, Connie Morden of St. Anne, IL; twenty-four grandchildren, fifty-two great-grandchildren and twenty-three great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, William E. Hanna; one daughter and son-in-law, Rilla and Rod Schriefer; two brothers, Howard and Harold; three sisters, Dorothy, Helen and Margaret; two granddaughters, Lori and Kathrine; two infant great-grandsons and one infant great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Hanna was a dietician for the Gilman school district. She was a member of the Onarga Christian Church; Royal Neighbors; Rebekah’s Lodge, where she earned the Degree of Chevalier Medal; past President and member of the Ladies Auxiliaries Patriarchs Militant in Fisher, IL and a member of the Ladies Encapment Auxiliary. In 1989 she got to place the wreath on the grave of the unknown soldier.

Memorials may be made to the Onarga Christian Church Building Fund or Donor’s Choice.
