Kenneth Gaffield Obit PicKenneth B. Gaffield, 76, of Sheldon, IL passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010 at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka.

Visitation will run from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29 at Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka and for one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, Jan. 30, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Watseka. The Rev. Donald Love will officiate. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Crescent City, IL. Military graveside rites will be provided by the Watseka American Legion Post #23 and the Iroquois County VFW Post #7450.

Mr. Gaffield was born Feb. 22, 1933 in Sheldon, IL, a son of John and Veneosa Simmons Gaffield. He married Mona M. Meyer on Dec. 27, 1964 in Watseka, IL. She preceded him in death on Dec. 11, 2009.

Survivors of Mr. Gaffield include two daughters and one son-in-law, Priscilla and Robert Carey of Watseka and Karen Gaffield of Sheldon; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Tonya Gaffield of Sheldon; five grandchildren andĀ four great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and four sisters.

Mr. Gaffield was a member of the U.S. Army, serving as a Corporal during the Korean War from March 31, 1953 – Jan. 5, 1955. He was a police officer for the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Dept. and the Sheldon Police Dept. He was also a part-time carpenter. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Watseka and was also a member of the National Rifle Association.
